Progesterone extended-release capsules are a compounded bioidentical hormone therapy designed to provide more gradual and sustained progesterone activity throughout the day or night. Because progesterone is naturally a “quick in and out” hormone with a relatively short half-life, an extended-release formulation may help provide more consistent symptom support for women experiencing mood fluctuations, anxiety, sleep disruption, PMS-type symptoms, or hormone imbalance related to perimenopause and menopause. Compounded extended-release progesterone capsules utilize micronized progesterone that is specially processed to an ideal particle size of approximately 5–10 microns, which helps enhance absorption and bioavailability for more effective hormone utilization. Unlike many commercially available progesterone products that contain peanut oil, compounded formulations can be prepared completely peanut-free and allergen-friendly using cellulose capsules with microcrystalline cellulose filler, without dyes, artificial colors, or unnecessary additives. This makes compounded progesterone an excellent option for patients with allergies, sensitivities, or those seeking cleaner, customized hormone therapy with individualized dosing and release profiles. Lower progesterone doses are typically needed in pre menopausal or peri menopsausal women.
